PROTECT AND IMPROVE THE WELFARE OF THE ANIMALS

The program focuses on the welfare of Indonesian primates. Our efforts include rescue, intensive medical care, rehabilitation, release, and monitoring. We also made efforts to prevent and manage human-animal conflicts, focusing on long-tailed macaque conflicts. Not only primates, we also rescue other endemic wildlife, whether they are injured or victims of illegal trade.

GETTING TO KNOW THE ANIMAL PROGRAM

Orangutans

Orangutan (Pongo spp.), are endemic to Indonesia and are critically endangered for extinction (CR/Critically endangered). Sadly, there are still many cases of orangutan poaching for pets or collectibles. Our orangutan conservation program includes orangutan rescue, intensive medical care, rehabilitation, release, and monitoring.

Slow loris

Slow loris (Nycticebus sp.) is a small nocturnal animal with an endangered status (EN/endangered) that requires conservation efforts for its preservation.  Slow loris welfare may be threatened due to rampant slow loris poaching. Our slow loris conservation program includes loris rescue, intensive medical care, rehabilitation, release and monitoring.

Macaque

Our macaque conservation program focuses on Macaca fascicularis or long-tailed macaque, which is already critically endangered (EN/Endangered). Recent conflicts between macaque and humans are often caused by the conversion of land into settlements so that the places where humans and long-tailed monkeys live intersect. One of the programs related to makaka that we implement is HMC (Human Macaque Conflict), that aims to prevent and handle conflicts between humans and long-tailed monkeys.

Saving Indonesia’s Endemic Wildlife

YIARI also conducts endemic wildlife rescue efforts for animals injured in nature, injured by humans, and poached animals who are also victims of illegal trade and pets.
